James Leroy Lenertz, age 81, longtime resident of Yuma, AZ, passed away on January 11, 2021. He was born in Aurora, IL on November 8, 1939 to Joseph and Beatrice (Rieser) Lenertz. Jim graduated from St. Mary’s grammar school in West Chicago and West Chicago Community High School in 1957 where he played football and wrestled. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah and then went on to receive his master’s degree at the University of Colorado Boulder. Jim was a devout Catholic who loved the outdoors, whether playing tennis, backpacking, fishing, hunting, or skiing. He was a Ranger Naturalist at Yellowstone Park and Teton National Park.
Jim is survived by his brothers, Edward (Lee) Lenertz, Richard (Christine) Lenertz and Frank Lenertz, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2021 from 8:30 a.m. until time of prayers at 9:30 a.m. at Norris-Segert Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 132 Fremont St. (one block north of Washington St. and Main), West Chicago and then proceed to St. Mary’s Church, 164 N. Oakwood Ave., West Chicago for Mass at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in West Chicago.
